Rabbit Valley Customer Service

Every once in a while my brain goes into odd places and I have to share some thoughts on current events in the furry fandom.

First, we at Rabbit Valley® Comics want to congratulate Teagen Gavet on her nomination for the Comic-Con International 2012 Manning Award for her work on Nordguard: Across Thin Ice.

The Manning Award has been given out annually at the San Diego Comic-Con since 1982. It is presented to a comics artist who, early in his or her career, shows a superior knowledge and ability in the art of creating comics. It is named for Russ Manning, the artist best known for his work on the Tarzan and Star Wars newspaper strips and the Magnus, Robot Fighter comic book. Russ was a popular guest at the San Diego convention in the 1970s.

We congratulate the Blotch team and Sofawolf Press on this achievement. It’s well earned

Throughout the day we have been reading on FurAffinity and Twitter about some less than wholesome events that took place at the recent Memorial Day Furry BBQ in New Jersey. We will not speculate on events we did not witness, but based on what we have read, and the information at hand, there are less than wholesome persons in the fandom who need to be taught how to act in public settings.

One does not do that kind of thing in public, in view of town officials, children, and law enforcement.

There is a time and place for almost everything…a cook out hosted by a rescue service is neither the place nor time for those kinds of activities.

To the persons involved, may you endure the maximum consequences for your actions.

I am proud of my contributions to the Furry Fandom. I help my loving spouse run Rabbit Valley Comics. We ship furry themed comics, novels, artwork, books, and more almost every day of the week. I play an active role in our local furry community and do our part to help fandom sponsored charities. I work with established, up-and-coming, and our favorite artists to promote their writing, artwork, and other contributions to the community at large. I attend and have representation at over two dozen events each year. All of this with my husband at my side, he too does all the same things as I. Together we model positive adult / grown-up behaviors to those around us.

We do not hide what we do for a living. We publish books, novels, comics, and yes – adult materials. We distribution work from 2 the Ranting GryphonAnthropomorphic DreamsBad Dog BooksBucktown TigerDreamfield ComicsClub Strips & CocktailsFurplanetJarlidium PressRadio ComixRingtail CafeSofawolf PressTales of the Tai Pan UniverseUsagi Yojimbo Comics, and YARF! Many of these professionals, like us promote positive values while also catering to the more adult nature of fandom.

When people ask me what I do I tell them flat out that I work for myself doing a cavalcade of things with my first priority being publishing and distribution of anthropomorphic animal books, comics, and more. While I also consult for several other clients in a few other industries, furry is my primary focus.

Yes, there are persons in our fandom, as well as every other social group, who do not follow society’s rules. I refuse to let the actions of a few outliers dictate how I broadcast myself in what I consider my fandom. Yes, RifkaFox / WhiteFox / Andrew Rabbitt is a furry, and proud of it.

I’m always looking forward to hanging out with my anthro-loveing friends, wearing my fursuits, sporting ears and tail with friends at parties and other events…but only when appropriate. Even when at conventions I know enough to take off badges, tails, ears, and other furry identifies when going to certain restaurants or places outside of con space. Yeah, there is a time for tails in public places, but every dinner during a con…

I use common sense, social cues, and my experiences in the fandom since 1994 to help govern my decisions.

All that said, we are each individuals, but together we can make a difference. To better one life is to better the world, or at least that is what I was taught while learning to become a teacher.

Cover art for The Chronicles of Jayden: The Gifted

Wolf, the author of our newest novel, wrote up a little blurb to get you enticed by his new book, The Chronicles of Jayden: The Gifted, the first of several books in a new fantasy series he’s penned.  This is original stuff and not in the book.  Not too spoiler-esque, but it may tell you something about the book.

From within the shadows of the trees, atop the hills that looked down over the city of Dotharian, King Taimus Corinth watched as the city burned and wondered if this was to be the fate of all his cities.  As he retired to the security of his armored car, he pondered which would destroy the majority of his cities first.  Would it be the war or the renegade Summoner Zenti in his monstrous quest to rid the Isle of Mitd of the invaders?  Perhaps it was time to speak with the Royal Assassin about bringing this matter under control.

Dotharian burned, and at its center stood the silver white wolf, Summoner Zenti.  He watched with a seething anger as he continued to coax the flames of the burning city higher.  How dare the citizens help the invaders?  Rage burned inside at the invaders and the traitors of Dotharian, but they paled in comparison to the uncontrollable rage he felt for his once mate.  Mari had denounced him, judged him as the traitor, and turned her back on him.  He had walked away but briefly stoped and watched her drop her mating band.  He raged at what the invaders had done to him, the bargain he struck with the Oracle to avenge his Mari’s death, only to find she had thrown him away like rubbish.  The city burned brighter, and charred bodies of his race still smoldered as be howled in rage.  Yet within the rage, something tugged at his cold heart

Zenti remembered reading the history of the Isle of Mitd, normally a place of peace.  Once or twice a century, the invaders would come from the stars, descending upon this isle.  They came, randomly pillaged cities and then left.  They had never stayed or fought a protracted war until now.  His mind drifted to his lost heart.  How could she have been so cold and hateful towards him?  He howled in rage, and the city burned brighter.  If the invaders were here to wage war, it was time to make the pay for it with rivers of blood.

Watching the wolf leave the city, the king looked over to the old buzzard sitting across from him in the armored car.  The old shaman looked back at the king, both sharing the same questioned look in the other’s eyes.  Was this summoner in control enough to win the war without destroying the whole of the Isle?  The armored car rolled away from the woods just after the buzzard stepped out.  He watched as the car faded into the night turning off its lights and becoming nothing more than a dot in the dark.  Turning back to the burning city, the shaman pondered just what would be the best way to guide this raging wolf to help win this war and mend his broken heart. Perhaps it was not he that needed the guidance but the one who had injured him.  With that thought, he raised a paw and in a brief flash of light, the shaman was gone.

And here’s where you want to put on your spoiler glasses:

Mari looked at the mating ring in the light of the new morning sun.  Why she had gone back to find it? She did not know, yet she had spent all night looking for it.  Her patrons and soldiers needed her guidance if they were to win this war, and now she had to do it alone.  Her mate, she spat those words out as if they were rotten food in her mouth, had been the guiding force behind her military victories. Now, she would have to rely only on herself.  Steeling herself, she headed back to her camp and to the war that awaited her: war that would determine the fate of her race, the fate of the Isle of Mitd, and future of the planet Jayden.

Happy Saturday from Santa Clara, California!

We’re on a bit of a break during Anthrocon this year to relax and get away from the 100+ degree heat of Las Vegas. We’ve been enjoying a day with our friends from YARF! as well as @andyspots. Good food, good drinks, good fun!

Anyway, time for the news!
