Christmas has come and gone, the changing of the calendar is upon us.

We hope that our family and friends had a most excellent holiday.

To those traveling over the season, please be careful. Roads throughout the nation may be covered in ice, snow, or worse. Play it safe and try to be defensive in your driving. If you are a passenger in a vehicle, please make sure your driver is safe and that you are practicing good auto safety.

Until later,

Christmas Bells
by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

And thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along
The unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Till, ringing, singing on its way
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime,
A chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Then from each black, accursed mouth
The cannon thundered in the South,
And with the sound
The Carols drowned
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

And in despair I bowed my head;
‘There is no peace on earth,’ I said;
‘For hate is strong,
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!’

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
‘God is not dead; nor doth he sleep!
The Wrong shall fail,
The Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men!’

Back when we were based in New England we would host our annual holiday party at Longfellow’s Wayside Inn, the oldest continually operating inn/tavern in the United States. Longfellow’s has been offering comfort and hospitality to travelers along the Boston Post Road since 1716, and we were introduced to the establishment in 2004 by the Fox’s then clients. We went on to host our wedding reception as well as our holiday parties at Longfellow’s Wayside Inn until we relocated.

The staff of Longfellow’s gave us a book of poems written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and told us the history of the tavern trough his collection of poems Tales of a Wayside Inn – they tell it with such flair. It was in 1987 when the then owner of the tavern changed the name to Longfellow’s Wayside Inn (additional history here.)

It’s this time of year that we share stories of our family to yours. As I thumb through the pages of this poem book, reading the holiday themed poems, I though I would share this memory with you.

May you have the happiest of holidays and the merriest of Christmas from all of us at Rabbit Valley Comics.
